About Woodbury Barns & Farm
(on the site of the former Country Loft)
Woodbury Barns and Farm (WBF), The Crown Jewel of Woodbury, Connecticut, is located on the site of the old Samuel Bull Homestead and the former Country Loft in the historic & bucolic town of Woodbury, Connecticut which was recently named The Most Charming Town In Connecticut by Reader's Digest Magazine. Nestled in the heart of the downtown area and the very first property in The Historic District, the property is as convenient and centrally located as it is beautiful and historic. WBF is spread over 20 magnificent acres of famed Litchfield County countryside replete with an abundance of wildlife, rolling hills, a stream, a 2 acre pond, a horse riding paddock, a fire pit, croquet & games lawns, and majestic granite cliffs that are over one hundred feet high which all compliment the magnificent views and scenic vistas. There are seven structures located on the property that are stunning examples of colonial architecture which have all been updated, desiged, & furnished with WBF's signature blend of quintessential New England style fused with French, English, & Italian influences that together create a trademark aesthetic that is chic, high-style, and beautiful yet remain relatable and framed for both comfort and function. WBF is the pure definition of upscale-casual where The European Countryside meets quintessential New England at a property that is all at once high-design and yet Informal, elegant and yet understated, & has become the absolute & ideal definition of upscale-casual, rustic-chic, relaxed-formality, & informal-elegance. Three main buildings respectively house a Bed & Breakfast set within a c. 1706 homestead built by The Town's very first Blacksmith, a guest cottage converted into apartments and a future spa that was originally the first general store for the town of Woodbury, and an 8000 sq' barn c. 1840 that has an indoor weddings and events venue, conference room/co-working space, retail spaces, gift boutique, interior decorating & design studios, bridal salon, yoga studio, art gallery, commercial kitchen, offices, and The State’s only authentic French wine cave, cellars & private tasting room. Near future plans will see the installation of a café, restaurant, and bar with both indoor and outdoor seating as well as an aqua terrace, tennis courts, and every conceivable luxury amenity there is. WBF is already one of the top weddings and events venues in the state of Connecticut and its renowned antique store, one of the oldest in town, was a founding member of The Woodbury Antiques Dealer's Association and an originating member of The Connecticut Antiques Trail in a town often referred to as 'The Antiques Capital of America'. The WBF property has also been featured in film, television, & print and is both a landmark and a staple of all works of authority regarding European Country design in America as well as one of The Country's leading French Country interior design firms. At WBF there is a distinct focus on local, sustainable, and small business which has been thoughtfully and meticulously incorporated into both the mission and the vision of WBF as well as its business and strategic plans. WBF is extremely inclusive, pluralistic, and civic minded and has gone to great lengths to be a positive, optimistic, and active member of the local community as well as a resource and support to its friends, neighbors, local businesses, vendors, service providers, and organizations. These mindful practices have been woven into everything from the fabric of their purchasing / procurement models, standard operating procedures, and strategic & development plans to the products and services they utilize, market, or sell. WBF has focused its debut almost exclusively on philanthropic initiatives and donating its space and resources with plans for that to continue throughout the remainder of 2019 with no formalized plans for sales, marketing, or business development scheduled until the new year 2020 where they will still remain firmly committed to giving back and paying it forward. In 1981, The Country Loft realized a dream of opening a store specializing in 18th and 19th century French antiques in the charming town of Washington Depot, Connecticut. Years later, it acquired the renowned Samuel Bull Homestead in Woodbury, the prized antique center of Connecticut, and soon became a destination for customers from around the globe in search of the very best in authentic French Country antiques. In 2010, we opened up to host Weddings and Private events. Located on nineteen acres of magnificent Litchfield county countryside, Woodbury Barns & Farm now proudly displays a vast collection of European and American antiques, wine accoutrements, accessories, and culinary antiques. At Woodbury Barns & Farm where the grain was once stored within the stone walls of a circa 1840 silo, now stands a 19th century wine barrel along with a wine tasting table ready to be put to use.
Every person that enters the historic restored barns at Woodbury Barns & Farm are warmed by the unexpected nostalgia of days gone by.
Some dedicated endeavors were to host and share the Woodbury Barns & Farm property for Weddings, Private parties and fundraising events some of which have included: The Pomperaug River Watershed Coalition, Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, The Northwestern Connecticut AIDS Project, the “Reflections” fundraiser for the Leever Regional Cancer Center in Waterbury, Connecticut, Connecticut Summer Opera Foundation, St. Judes, St. Mary’s Hospital of Waterbury, The Democratic Party, The Republican Party, Americares, Tsunami Relief, Hurricane Katrina, Unicef, The Chapman House, and the Audubon Society.
